Water is the most abundant compound in the human body, necessary for digestion, transport of nutrients, elimination of waste, circulation of blood, lubrication of joints and internal organs, and regulation of body temperature.
When we become dehydrated it slows down our metabolism (meaning we burn fat slower) creates fuzzy short-term memory, difficulty focusing on the computer screen or printed page and is the number one cause of daytime fatigue. The recommended daily intake for water is between 2 – 3 litres which might sound like a lot, but within this exercise regime you will need to drink even more.
The easiest way to make sure you drink enough is to have a litre bottle of water with you all the time and to drink a mouth full every 15 minutes or so, and whenever you feel hungry have a drink first. That way your body will run more efficiently, your joints will ache less, your brain will be more focused and your energy levels higher. Your body and mind will thank you for it!
